This week seemed to have gone by so quickly. I've had quite an
adventurous time with Elder Decker. He is a spanish missionary so we
took the advantage and tried to see, as time would permit, a handful of
spanish speakers. All the hispanics go to the Northport ward, no matter
if they live in Northport or Tuscaloosa. There is not a spanish branch
yet, they just need one more priesthood holder to set one up, so it is
getting real close to do that. It sort of makes me want to be a spanish
missionary, even though I can't understand it that well. I can sort of
understand about half of what they are saying, but I am so slow and
translating in my mind that I can't respond to them. One of these days I
will learn spanish though.
I seems like my attitude towards a companion is changing as time
goes on. The mtc was short and so long ago it is just a blur. My first
month here with Elder Lacour didn't really go so well, I didn't really
like him. Then with Elder Peters it was a great change for work, but it
seemed like I was with him for so long and tension just kept building
up as time went on, so before last week, it was just tough to be a
missionary. Then I get to spend a week and a half with Elder Decker and
we just have a good 'ole time. This week was really enjoyable, it felt
like working with an actual brother. Sometimes he makes weird sounds
but at this point, it doesn't even phase me. Next wednesday is transfers
and I'll be getting a new companion, so I will let you know who that
is. It is weird to say that I have had more companions than most
missionaries here and I've only been here since October.
Take care,
with love,
Jacob
